Workshop Crossing Borders

Last Monday Annabelle went back to be guest lecturer at Fontys Academy for Creative Industries during the Fontys International Week.

This event, dominated by ‘Crossing Borders’ item, students are challenged to look beyond their national borders. They are asked to step out of their comfort zone to make them aware of intercultural differences. The students  raised in a Western European environment, have rare contact with people from other countries and different cultures. They are often privileged because they are following a college education and those privileges do not apply to everyone in this world.

However, if they  want to do business in this intercultural context this knowledge is required. By attending different workshops and working with people from the media industry the Fontys University makes students aware of these differences in the world.

In a workshop about content acquisition and channel distribution, former Fontys lecturer and current AreaMedia account manager Annabelle presented a recent BBC case to the students. In this case the students explored the differences and similarities between Dutch TV and foreign TV shows.  What should be taken into account, what rights, laws and cultural differences are key to success?

Students were very enthusiastic and driven to present a good analysis in the end. Given this result Annabelle will stay actively connected with Fontys.
